Updates from our Legislators, Assemblymen and the Anchorage School Board (School Bond, Proposition 2, on the April 3 Anchorage Municipal Election Ballot). Presentations from Anchorage Tomorrow on additional bond propositions and the proposed sale of Municipal Light & Power to Chugach Electric, Proposition 10, by Julie Hasquet from Chugach Electric. An ACLU presentation on Homelessness and Crime by Rashika Rakibullah and one on the Chugach Foothills Playground Improvement Project by Park Planner Maeve Nevins-Lavtar.

Agenda highlights — Assembly Candidates Forum: 

Candidates to represent East Anchorage on the Municipal Assembly will describe their candidacy and issues. The Municipal Election will be held on April 4. School board candidates have been invited though they are scheduled for two other meetings the same night and may not all be able to attend.

Presentations:
1. Fiscal plan for the State of Alaska. Ian Laing, Executive Director of the non-profit group Alaska’s Future, will give a presentation on the need for a State fiscal plan..
2. Parks service extension area – the proposed extension of Municipal Parks service to certain areas of the hillside, which requires approval from ALL Anchorage residents even though ONLY hillside will pay for it.
3. Municipal Bond Proposals – description of other proposals on the ballot of the April 4 Municipal Election.

We are working to establish a phone link to State Representative Lance Pruitt and State Senator Cathy Giessel for their comments on the 2017 legislative session and so they will be able to respond to your questions.

Assembly representatives Forrest Dunbar and Pete Petersen and a member of the School Board will be available to keep us informed on current issues of interest to us or that may require our input for their deliberations.

Glenn-Muldoon Interchange Public Open House March 16th

Glenn Highway Muldoon Road Interchange Public Open House 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016, informal presentation at 7 p.m., in the Yellow Cafeteria at Bartlett High School, 1101 North Muldoon Road. Project teams will be available to review the scope of work and provide information about the project.

Go to www.glennmuldoon.com to “drive” through the new interchange via animation video. Come, learn about Diverging Diamond Interchange design plans for vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and share your opinions and concerns with DOT&PF.

Neeser Construction Inc. has been selected to construct the Glenn Muldoon DDI. Work will begin in the Spring of 2016, continue over three seasons, and be completed by November 2018.

First Public Meeting on JBER Drawdown Impacts 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the multi-purpose room at Begich Middle School, 7440 Creekside Center Drive. Light refreshments provided.

The Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Defense, is conducting an economic assessment of potential troop drawdowns. Two public meetings will provide information and invite comments on how reductions might affect businesses, schools, and neighborhoods.
